Offering a wide range of artisan breads, specialising in  slowly femented sourdoughs, focaccia and the usual favourites. We also offer pastries, sweet treats and savoury pies.

Our highly skilled bakers are passionate about using the best ingredients, including Matthew's Cotswold flour. All our eggs are free range. We do not add improvers or chemicals to our breads.

Where to buy?

You can find our local shop and cafe at 20 Wallingford Street, Wantage, OX12 8AX for a selection of daily fresh breads & pastries to takeaway, or chose to sit in at our cosy cafe & enjoy a great coffee with some food from our cafe menu.

A bit of history...

The Heritage Bakery was formally known as Marco Polo Bakery, winning numerous Great Taste awards. Gifted baker Peter Towpik set up the Marco Polo Bakery as he recognised the need for high quality locally produced bread, which was not available in the Wantage area. Over a decade later, his legacy continues under the stewardship of The Heritage Bakery, with the same team of bakers providing premium artisan breads - upholding Peter’s superior craftmanship. Following in Peter’s footsteps, our talented bakery manager Adam Kucinski continues to innovate and is always looking to introduce new products. Making good sourdough requires years of experience, adjusting recipes and experimentation. Our team of bakers have the expertise and insight to consistently deliver every time.

OUR PRODUCTS

All of our products are made using traditional techniques without improvers or chemicals. 

We pride ourselves in sourcing the finest local ingredients, including Matthews Cotswold Flour. Our unique "slow fermentation" technique (24-48hrs) is used in our bespoke range of sourdough breads.
